Goodbye Mr MacKenzie. No, not the obscure 80's agit pop band!
It is understood that embattled NI Water chief Laurence MacKenzie offered his resignation earlier this evening and recommended that Sinn Féin's regional development minister, Conor Murphy, accept it.
MacKenzie is expected to walk away with around £500,000 (yes, you read that right, half a fucking million pounds).
Laurence MacKenzie soiling his underpants at the mere thought of the easiest half a million he's ever made.Murphy is hardly likely not to accept his resignation given that it affords him a get out of jail (no pun intended) card whereby he can say that someone (other than him) has fallen on their sword over the debacle.
Hooray for public accountability, horray for jobs that pay you a half a million pounds for fucking up royally.

Why is it......
That when you put two people, both of whom throughout their entire political "careers" have asked the vexatious
"Will only our rivers run free"? , in positions of responsibility at NI Water they invariably fuck it all up?
Has nobody else noticed the irony?
To borrow a phrase from a good friend
"Conor Murphy couldn't run a bath nevermind a Government department and now, as a result of his handy work, neither can half the country".
Lets see some real accountability and responsibility from these two cheerleaders for public scrutiny.
Mairtin, having berated previous directors for
their supposed shortcomings, accepted a directorship at NI Water faster than a rat up one of their (cracked) pipes. Let's see if he'll do the honourable thing and hold himself to his own high standards and resign as a result of his incompetence - I don't fucking think so.
Conor, let's be having you. For years you sniped from the sidelines at various ministers whom you deemed incompetent or not fit for purpose. How does it feel now that the shoe is on the other foot? Will you be tendering your resignation any time soon or will you opt to sacrifice more public servants in the name of confidence / competence building in an attempt to cling on to your little fifedom?
We've seen how power hungry and control crazed Sinn Fein have become. Your contempt for your electorate and indeed the entire population of Northern Ireland is in keeping with the contempt of your erstwhile fellow travellers and their contempt for their many victims.
If either of you have a shred of common decency or integrity you would stand down with immediate effect.

Well fuck me, if it isn't water charges.
Anyone watching the UTV news last night could be forgiven for thinking that they'd slipped into some bizarre space time continuium where the past had never happened.
Perhaps it's only me but I seem to recall the Northern Ireland electorate being promised by all and sundry that in they event that they were elected to the Assembly none of the regional parties would be advocating the introduction of water charges for domestic users.
Now we have UTV telling (selling) us the fact that hot on the heels of Consumer Council research the charges are not as bad as initially feared.
Here is the news. Anything above and beyond £0.00 by way of a water charge in addition to our current rates bills is unacceptable.
Given the fact that our elected (well and indeed multiple salaried) representatives lied to us on the matter I think they should be taken to task and held to account.
Say "No way. You're a bunch of fucking liars" to water charges.
